The kids start fighting before I even shift into reverse. He says she should stop breathing his air. She’s crying because the sky looks “stupid” today. He says she looks stupid too.
Now she’s screaming — at a pitch that could knock birds out of trees, and the neighbor’s dog is howling and running back home.
I glance at the odometer: zero kilometers, but in my head I’m already in the parking lot…
